Stainless Steel Locker Manufacturer: Classification Methods for Stainless Steel Materials

Stainless steel locker manufacturers state that stainless steel is a material with a mirror-like sheen and a tough, cold feel. It is used in heavy industry, light industry, consumer goods manufacturing, and architectural decoration. Stainless steel locker manufacturers indicate that stainless acid-resistant steel, abbreviated as stainless steel, is composed of stainless steel and acid-resistant steel. Steel that is corroded is called acid-resistant steel. Generally speaking, steel with a chromium content greater than 12% exhibits the characteristics of stainless steel. Based on the microstructure after heat treatment, it can be divided into five categories: ferritic stainless steel, martensitic stainless steel, austenitic stainless steel, austenitic-ferritic duplex stainless steel, and precipitation-hardened stainless steel. I. Classification methods for stainless steel materials: There are many classification methods for stainless steel materials, with classification by metallographic structure being the most common. 1. Classification by chemical composition: It can be broadly divided into two systems: chromium stainless steel (such as ferritic and martensitic systems) and chromium-nickel stainless steel (such as austenitic, duplex, and precipitation-hardening systems). 2. Classification by metallography: It can be divided into austenitic stainless steel, ferritic stainless steel, martensitic stainless steel, duplex stainless steel, and precipitation-hardened stainless steel. 3. Classification by corrosion resistance type: It can be divided into stress corrosion resistant stainless steel, pitting corrosion resistant stainless steel, and intergranular corrosion resistant stainless steel.

The stainless steel locker manufacturer stated, Acid-resistant stainless steel, abbreviated as stainless steel, is composed of stainless steel and acid-resistant steel. Steel that is corroded is called acid-resistant steel. Generally speaking, steel with a chromium content greater than 12% has the characteristics of stainless steel. According to the microstructure after heat treatment, it can be divided into five categories: ferritic stainless steel, martensitic stainless steel, austenitic stainless steel, austenitic-ferritic duplex stainless steel, and precipitation-hardening stainless steel.

  I. Classification methods of stainless steel materials:

There are many classification methods for stainless steel materials. The following are some common methods, among which classification by microstructure is the most common.

  1. Classification by chemical composition

It can be basically divided into two systems: chromium stainless steel (such as ferritic and martensitic systems) and chromium-nickel stainless steel (such as austenitic, abnormal, and precipitation-hardening systems).

  2. Microstructure classification

It can be divided into austenitic stainless steel, ferritic stainless steel, martensitic stainless steel, duplex stainless steel, and precipitation-hardening stainless steel.

  3. Classification by corrosion resistance type

It can be divided into stress corrosion resistant stainless steel, pitting corrosion resistant stainless steel, and intergranular corrosion resistant stainless steel, etc.

  4. Classification by function

It can be divided into easily cut stainless steel, non-magnetic stainless steel, low-temperature resistant stainless steel, and high-strength stainless steel.

There are nearly 100 types of stainless steel listed in various standards worldwide. With the advancement of science and technology and the development of industry and agriculture, new stainless steel grades are constantly being added. For known stainless steel grades, the chromium equivalent [Cr] and nickel equivalent [Ni] can be calculated based on their chemical composition, and then the Schaeffler-DeLong steel grade can be used to roughly estimate the steel grade stainless steel microstructure organization and performance.

  Classification of matrix structures:

  1. Ferritic stainless steel. Chromium 12% to 30%. Its corrosion resistance, toughness, and weldability increase with the increase in chromium content. It has better resistance to chloride stress corrosion than other types of stainless steel.

  2. Austenitic stainless steel. Contains more than 18% chromium, and also contains about 8% nickel and a small amount of molybdenum, titanium, nitrogen, etc. It has good comprehensive performance and is resistant to corrosion by various media.

  3. Austenitic-ferritic duplex stainless steel. It combines the advantages of austenitic and ferritic stainless steel and has superplasticity.

  4. Martensitic stainless steel. High strength, but poor plasticity and weldability.
