The newly purchased sink is unused, but after being left for a while, the surface of the sink has rusted. What should I do?

This is a phenomenon of floating rust. The sink is corroded by corrosive gases, liquids, and metal dust from newly renovated houses, or by long-term contact with acidic or alkaline substances (not a problem with 304 material). Minor floating rust can be removed by repeatedly wiping with a cotton cloth dipped in toothpaste. For more serious floating rust, use a scouring pad with toothpaste and scrub along the grain.
